Gefilte Fish

Many people outside Arylon regard this dish as disgusting (the author among them), but the vast majority of the city populace loves this stuff.

Gefilte fish (Ge-feal-te-fish), is a fish cutlet which ranges in color from white to transparent. It is usually served with carrots in a white sauce. Though sickening in appearance, the cutlet has a pleasant taste with a slightly sweet aftertaste.

To make this cutlet you must hit the fish hard with a mallet, clean it with a broad knife, then cut it precisely in the middle to remove all the bones from its flesh. The meat is then ground and cooked with a secret sauce known to virtually every housewife in the city. The aftertaste is believed to be due to the carrots involved in the cooking; to this date no woman has ever revealed the truth.
