Sandalaron is the owner and operator of the Owl's Hole shop. He is 5' 5" tall, 135lbs., with long, flowing, blue-black hair tied with a strip of black silk. He has a slight build and a barely noticeable limp. When seen walking about, he has a sharp-eyed look but seems sad somehow. This is due to the recent loss of his familiar. Before the loss, he was a healthy, dynamic adventurer. Since his loss, he has retired from adventuring and decided to settle in a new city. Losing his familiar has been a severe blow to his whole being. His attitude is one of passiveness, and he will not take unfair advantage of anyone.

He spends his time delving the depths of magical research and item creation, collecting antiques, and sharing his vast knowledge of arcane lore. He is 503 years old, quick witted, and even quicker to laugh. He is patient and thoughtful, fair and just, even-tempered, but secure in his magical abilities to defeat most enemies that cross him.

Most people assume he is a Moon Elf, but he is not. He is actually from the city of Greyhawk on Oerth.

Sandalaron was born to into a family of little wealth. His father, Sandes Britehand, was an exile from elven society and a small time thief in and around Greyhawk. He was caught by the local magistrate in the act of a theft and hung in the open markets. His mother was crippled while Sandalaron was a little boy, and was not able to take care of him as well as she would have liked. He noticed at an early age how most of the humans treated the Grey Elves in Greyhawk, and decided that one day he would change all that. He knew that if he survived, he would outlive any and all of the humans he knew. He stayed around Greyhawk most of his young life.

As the years rolled by and the other kids he had met grew up, got married, had children and died, he stayed a young man. His mother died around his 58th birthday. This was a like a hammer blow to Sandalaron. He loved his mother very much, and feels her loss to this day. He often stumbles, looks down at his own leg, thinks of her and smiles.

Several years after the loss of his mother, Sandalaron met an old mage named Glordinen. The mage saw in Sandalaron's quick eyes and careful thought processes the makings of a great mage. He took the young adult in and began the long process of teaching him the crafting of spells. Sandalaron spent 10 years with Glordinen and learned all the old man could teach him. He then set out on his own to see the world.

Early in his career, while in a battle with an evil fighter, Sandalaron opened a portal in an attempt to escape from certain death. The fighter used a Sword of the Planes. As Sandalaron stepped into the portal, the weapon passed through the portal's edges. The clashing of magics caused the destruction of the portal. Sandalaron was flung across the planes and deposited on Toril in the South Wood. After collecting himself and searching the area he discovered he was not on Oerth anymore. Not having the means and abilities to return, he set out for the largest city in the region.

Locals directed him to the gates of Waterdeep, where he met the Company of the Crazed Dagger. The adventuring group had recently lost their wizard and asked Sandalaron to join them. Not knowing anyone and having nowhere to go, he agreed. He was given the former mage's equipment, including spell books. The company led Sandalaron into Undermountain, where all the members were killed but Sandalaron and a thief named Symbion Blade. After returning to the surface, Sandalaron set out to see more of the city and then the rest of the sword coast.

His travels took him to Shadowdale where he met, briefly, Elminster. The old sage suggested Sandalaron give Toril a chance. Sandalaron returned to the sword coast, and traveled to most of it's cities over the next 25 years. He has spoken to Khelben Arunsun on several occasions, seeking insight, and has developed a great respect for the Blackstaff. Sandalaron returned for many delvings into Undermountain, spent time in the Anauroch desert, searched through the ruins of Myth Drannor, sailed through the Pirate Isles, and walked the shores of the Moonshae Isles. He has walked into and fought his way out of Thay, descended into the Great Rift, and even talked to the Goblin tribes of Chult.

On his last return to Waterdeep he acquired his familiar, Boots, a black-footed Great Horned Owl. He and Boots adventured in and around the High Moor, where Boots was killed by a stone giant's boulder. Sandalaron depleted most of his arsenal of spells fighting the giants, and his leg was broken by a thrown boulder. He carries the scars of the battle in a slight limp and on his heart. He has decided to retire to an easier and less deadly life.

Sandalaron has noticed the decline in the elven population of the Realms. He doesn't feel the compulsion to travel to Evermeet as most elves do. He has decided to settle in Arylon so he might make the city "elf friendly", and he will go out of his way to champion the cause of any elf, so long as it is fair and just. For example, he might drop subtle threats to city officials if they are mistreating or holding ill feelings toward any type of elf. In the recent past he openly slew a Calishite slaver and his guards who were traveling through Arylon with 2 wild elves in tow. He gave himself up willingly to the law, and in the ensuing trial the sympathetic judge exonerated him. Sandalaron, for a time, was cheered by the anti-slavery people of Arylon. If Sandalaron were to become involved in politics, it would be to support the elven cause only. He has no desire to rule anyone or anything, though he would accept authority if it were not too demanding of his time. Essentially, he is trying to retire.

He has acquired a good deal of knowledge in his travels, and is willing to part with it for a reasonable price. He has developed a passion for all things antique, and collects them actively. He spends his free time in the pursuit of arcane knowledge, and uses this knowledge to manufacture magical items. He has a large villa he built using funds from his adventures, located several hundred yards beyond the northwest edge of the city.

Currently Sandalaron is looking for a few promising students to take on as apprentices for a short term, if the money is right. He will not actively become involved in politics, so long as he thinks justice and fairness are upheld.

His spells per level are 5-5-5-5-5-3-2-1.
